I dived with my friends Martin and Steve today, the local coast is blown out now probably until next spring so we headed inland to Ellerton Park.
The water generally has a green tinge and today, probably due to the weather on the coast, was very busy with several dive schools carrying out training. As a result the underwater visibility was less than average at best and in patches was terrible.
I set up with a wide angle lens which I do as standard but it has the advantage of reducing the amount of water between the subject and the film plane which as a consequence reduces the amount of suspended matter which would spoil the picture.
Handling the camera over such a soft silty bottom puts more pressure on my diver skills, the small screen is difficult to make out, the screen is dimly lit and only briefly becomes properly illuminated when the shutter is half depressed. All these things combine to make life more difficult but not impossible.
